Chapter Eleven

Cara

It’s been twenty minutes since Mike stormed out of the living room and all I can think about as I change in the other bathroom is how beautiful his sweat covered chest looked while he walked away.

Daniel and Joel are built well, don’t get me wrong, but Mike looks like he could be a professional wrestler or fighter. Which judging by his temper, he’d definitely fit the role. However, no matter how physically attractive he may be, nothing could make me feel shittier than how he just made me feel.

He called me a bitch and a whore, something I thought I’d stop hearing when I left my uncle, but I should’ve known better. No matter how sweet Joel and Daniel are, they are not every man, and from my shitty experience, every man is definitely not like them. I let myself get so wrapped up in Joel’s protectiveness and Daniel’s charm these last few hours, that I completely blocked out the truth of how rude a man can be.

I slide on a simple, matching set of black panties and bra. They’re not the usual holey, cotton ones that I wear, in fact, they have some lace on the edges which is by far the sexiest thing I’ve worn. With it being warm outside and in the penthouse, I picked a light blue sundress with flowers on it. It’s short, but still covers most of my thighs. I actually feel pretty for the first time in my womanhood, which is great since some strange and hot man called me horrible slurs.

I walk out of the room tentatively, sitting by Daniel on the couch as Joel sets down piping hot teacups in front of us. We sip and chat for a moment until Mike walks out and renders me speechless. He’s wearing a white t-shirt and dark jeans that sit on his perfectly tapered waist. He’s a few inches shorter than Daniel and Joel, but still tall enough to tower over me. His presence is thick and all-consuming as he strides into the room. He seems calmer, but I still am quiet with his angry and rude aura.

“Take a seat, Mike,” Joel orders and he waves him off, standing by the windows, barely making eye contact with any of us.

“I’m fine here,” he says, his accent thick and strong.

Wow, this man really is a giant ray of sunshine.

“We met Cara last night at the club. She was running from this bastard of a man, and we gave her a safe place to stay. This morning she let us know why she met that man, and that she just got out of a bad living situation and just arrived in New York. She needs our help and we’re here for her. We don’t need you stompin’ around like an angry giant, disrupting her peace,” Joel says, making me feel all kinds of safe with the way he’s defending me.

Apparently, Mike doesn’t agree. He lets out a sinister laugh and looks me up and down with angry eyes.
